Tang Museum: Three Works of Art

All of the pieces that I am going to compare and contrast are from a different exhibit then the one I decided to describe in depth. These pieces are from the exhibit called "If I Had Possession Over Judgement Day". They are pieces of work all collected by Claude Simard, who was an artist and a gallerist. Each piece is by someone else but the way all of these pieces seem to go together and how the room was set up and just seemed to flow, worked so well.

In this picture, the piece I am going to focus on are the flags hanging from the ceiling. This art piece is called "Asafo Flag". The artist is actually unknown but the origin is Ghana. As you can see the flags are made from stiched fabric, and each one is a different design. and different color scheme. Each flag has an open color palette and different symbols.

This next art piece is called Bogh Textile, and another piece by an unknown artist. They were from Punjab State in India, and from the early 20th century. They are made from a simple embroidered cotton and silk. I found these tapestries to be so gorgeous. They have a limited color palette of vibrant reds and oranges, and are beautiful warm tones that just remind me of their origin in India.

The last piece is called Soundsuit, and is by Nick Cave. It was from the United States and was created in 2012. Its a very intricate sculpture, mixed media, including embroidery fabric on the mannequin, a beautiful rug, and lastly vintage toys. It is so bright and colorful and has an beautiful open color palette.

All of these pieces were so colorful and beautiful and bright, and instantly made me feel happy. I don't know if that was the exact intention of all of these pieces, but that is why I chose them. They also are have some component that are embroidered.
